ZX Spectrum 16/48k – Professional Recapping Service.
Is your Spectrum suffering from “snowy” video, vertical bars, or faint audio? These are classic symptoms of failing electrolytic capacitors. Our ZX Spectrum 16/48k recapping service is designed to take the stress out of hardware maintenance.
How the service works:
Purchase: Order the service through our website.
Post: Send your working ZX Spectrum 16K or 48K motherboard (or full computer, with extra postage costs!) to our workshop.
Restore: We professionally remove the 40-year-old components and install a full set of brand new, high-tolerance modern capacitors.
Return: We test the hardware and post it back to you via a tracked service.
What we fix:
Video Clarity: Reduces ghosting and interference caused by power ripples.
Audio Restoration: Returns the “beeper” and AY chip (if applicable) to original volume levels.
Stability: Prevents random crashes and “black screen” boot issues.
Protection: Stops original capacitors from leaking electrolyte and damaging the PCB traces.
Compatibility: This service covers all Sinclair-manufactured 16K and 48K models, including Issue 2, 3, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5, and 6A.
(Not applicable for 128K Toastrack/+2/+3 models)
Full recap of all electrolytic capacitors with new blue Vishays. These are high quality to ensure they will last for many years, are the same axial package and have a similar blue colouring to the originals.
If required we will also complete the comp mod to the RF circuit on request.
On purchase, we will contact you to arrange delivery of the unit to us. You will need to send us the unit only, the PSU, cables etc are not required. Make sure it is well packaged to avoid damage in transit and note that the cost of this is not included in the purchase.
On receipt of the unit we will perform an initial inspection and basic tests as well as run a Diagnostic ROM test. Any issues will be reported back. Note that this service does not include any additional refurb or repairs and only the capacitor replacement will be performed. On completion, we will return your unit via Royal Mail, using your chosen method.
We aim for 1-2 weeks turn-around time, but it can be MUCH longer, sometimes 8+weeks! We will keep you advised of progress and any potential delays. This will depend on demand and other factors, please bear with us in busy periods.
