Professional ZX Spectrum 48K Refurbishment – Preserve Your Sinclair Legacy
The “Rubber Key” Sinclair ZX Spectrum is a design icon, but after four decades, the internal components—specifically the electrolytic capacitors—are reaching the end of their functional life. Our ZX Spectrum 48K Refurbishment Service is designed for collectors and enthusiasts who want to proactively preserve their working hardware using the finest components available.
High-Quality Vishay Capacitors
We believe in using only the best parts for vintage restoration. That is why we use high-quality Vishay capacitors throughout the recapping process. Vishay components are industry-renowned for their tight tolerances, high temperature ratings, and long-term reliability. By replacing aging, dried-out original capacitors with modern Vishay equivalents, you significantly improve the stability of the power rail and the clarity of the video output.
What the Service Includes:
- Full Professional Recapping: Every electrolytic capacitor on the motherboard is replaced with a premium Vishay equivalent.
- Motherboard Inspection & Cleaning: We carefully remove decades of dust and debris, checking for any signs of early corrosion or heat stress.
- Edge Connector Polishing: We clean the expansion bus to ensure a perfect connection for your peripherals and Interface 1/2.
- Voltage Regulator Check: Ensuring your Spectrum is receiving the correct power levels to protect the delicate ULA and RAM chips.
Free Composite Video Mod – Included with Your Refurbishment
As part of our commitment to providing the best possible restoration for your Sinclair ZX Spectrum, we offer a Composite Video Mod as a free, optional service during your refurbishment, just let us know if you would like it done.
Why Choose the Composite Mod?
The original Sinclair design relies on an RF signal, which requires you to “tune in” your Spectrum like an old analogue television. This often results in a fuzzy, noisy image that is difficult to use on modern displays.
By opting for this free upgrade, we bypass the internal TV modulator to provide a direct composite video signal. The benefits include:
- Crystal-Clear Display: Significantly reduces “snow,” ghosting, and colour bleed.
- Modern TV Compatibility: Allows your Spectrum to connect easily to any television with a yellow RCA (composite) input without the need for manual tuning.
- Non-Destructive: We perform this modification cleanly, maintaining the original look of your Spectrum’s exterior.
Zero Extra Cost
While other services charge extra for this essential upgrade, we include it completely free of charge as part of our standard refurbishment package. It is the single best way to improve your user experience and get the most out of your vintage 8-bit hardware.
Important Service Information:
Please Note: This is a refurbishment service only intended for functional computers. This service does not include repairs for “dead” machines, ULA failures, or memory faults. If your Spectrum is currently non-working, please contact us regarding repair options before purchasing this service.
Why Refurbish Now?
Capacitors are the most common cause of long-term damage in vintage electronics. When they fail, they can leak corrosive electrolyte onto the PCB or cause voltage spikes that destroy rare, irreplaceable chips like the ULA. A proactive refurbishment with Vishay parts is the single best investment you can make to ensure your Spectrum remains a working piece of computing history.
Postage costs are for return to you on completion and do not include initial dispatch to us (If you send more than just the computer, there would be a postage surcharge for return)
