Description
MiSTer Laggy – The Professional Display Latency Tester for MiSTer FPGA
In retro gaming, milliseconds matter. Modern displays (OLED, LCD, and LED) often use complex internal processing that can introduce significant input lag, ruining the “frame-perfect” experience of classic games. The MiSTer Laggy is your solution—a high-precision hardware sensor and core designed to evaluate and optimize your display’s responsiveness.
How It Works
Operating on a similar principle to the famous “Time Sleuth” device, MiSTer Laggy uses the MiSTer FPGA platform to generate a controlled video signal. The hardware sensor—connected via the User IO Port—detects the light from the screen, providing an instant readout of the display’s latency in milliseconds.
Why You Need a Lag Tester
- Calibration: Display manufacturers rarely provide accurate real-world latency data. MiSTer Laggy lets you see exactly how “Game Mode” settings, resolution changes, and refresh rates affect your performance.
- OLED & LCD Optimization: Find the “sweet spot” settings for your modern display to achieve a CRT-like response.
- Diagnostic Power: Test different HDMI cables, switches, and splitters to identify hidden sources of lag in your setup.
Compatibility & Requirements
To use MiSTer Laggy, you must have:
- MiSTer IO Board: Fully compatible with Analog IO v6.1 or Digital IO v1.2 (and newer).
- User Port: Requires a functional User IO port for the sensor connection.
- MiSTer Laggy Core: Compatible with the official MiSTer Laggy core (found in the Utility folder).
Premium Retro Revival Build
- Sleek Protection: Includes a high-quality Black 3D-printed case to protect the sensor during use.
- Plug & Play: Connects easily via a standard USB Type-A to Type-C cable.
- Lifetime Warranty: Like all our hardware, we stand by the quality of our builds for the life of the product.
Pro Tip: Use MiSTer Laggy to compare ‘Game Mode’ vs ‘Standard Mode’ on your TV—the difference is often more than 30ms!
